About

José Ignacio is a co-managing partner of the firm. He has over 15 years of experience providing legal and business advice to domestic and foreign clients, actively representing individuals and companies from a wide range of sectors in multi-million local and cross-border transactions.

José Ignacio also serves in the board of directors of several companies, including Aleatica, public company with a major role in the Mexican toll-road infrastructure sector; Crédito Maestro, one of the biggest players in the non-banking payroll credit industry in Mexico, and Resuelve tu Deuda, a pioneer and key player in the Mexican credit repair market and a provider of financial services through technological platforms with operations in Europe and Latin America. José Ignacio Rivero also served in the board of directors of Tarjetas del Futuro, Rappi’s financial services arm in Mexico; Crédito Real, public company in the credit business in México; and SiSNova, an insurance company. He worked as international associate at the top tier firm Proskauer Rose LLP in New York.

José Ignacio also founded and is the Chairman of the Fundación Dr. José Ignacio Rivero Cosme-Más allá del cancer, a non-profit organization that helps low income patients fight cancer.

Experience

  • Counsel to Rappi, Latin America’s first unicorn, in its US$400 million joint venture with Banorte, incorporating a new entity that will seek to become the largest digital bank in Mexico. He also counsels Tarjetas del Futuro (entity resulting from the joint venture) in the financing of its credit origination with Banorte for up to US$600 million
  • Counsel to IFM, an Australian global funds manager, in its US$2.6 billion global acquisition of OHL’s infrastructure concessions division, as well as in the mandatory acquisition tender offers launched in the Mexican Stock Exchange as a result of the acquisition, for 100% of the public shares of OHL’s Mexican subsidiary. This transaction was bestowed with the “Private Equity Deal of the Year” award by Latin Finance
  • Counsel to Metalsa, one of the leading suppliers of structural components for the automotive light vehicle and commercial vehicle markets, in its sustainability linked US$300 million 144A/Reg.S. offering of notes
  • Counsel to the shareholders of Resuelve tu Deuda, a Mexican financial restructuring and credit repair business, and such entity, in the acquisition of the stakes thereof by institutional investors Vulcan, the multi-billion dollar investment arm of Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist, Paul Allen; Freedom, a financial entity focused on consumer finance; and DILA Capital, a private equity fund with focus in the entrepreneurship sector; as well as with the negotiation and implementation of its debt with Alloy Merchant Partners, a cross-border financial company with operations in Mexico and the United States. Also advises Resuelve tu Deuda in its financing operations
  • Counsel to JA Mitsui, the financial arm of Mitsui, in the financing to Metalsa of US$98 million to fund the construction and operation of a manufacturing plant in Guanajuato for Toyota
  • Counsel to the shareholders of Crédito Maestro, one of the largest companies in the growing payroll deduction financing industry in Mexico, in the restructuring of its relationship with Crédito Real. He also counsels Crédito Maestro in all its structured financing by different lenders activities for the origination of its loan portfolios in an approximate amount of US$50 million per year
