Mexico City – March 15th, 2022 –Gonzalez Calvillo (“GC”), announces with deep sadness that our partner, outstanding attorney and environmental law expert, Leopoldo Burguete Stanek, passed away on March 9th, 2022. Polo always lived his life to the fullest and appreciated those around him. GC mourns his death but honors his numerous accomplishments.
A Partner at GC for almost two decades and with a professional career spanning over 30 years, Polo was the head of the GC’s Environmental Law practice group, where he handled a myriad of matters. He played a key role in making GC a top tier firm in Mexico. He joined the firm in 2004 and immediately became part of the bedrock of GC’s team.
Polo was also widely recognized in the global legal community as a pioneer in Mexican environmental law and sustainability (such as ESG matters, SDGs, circular economy, etc.) Clients valued his outstanding legal skills, commercial acumen, and problem-solving mentality. To the GC family, Polo was also a great leader, mentor, team player and above all a great human being always striving to be his very best.
Polo was a frequent speaker across numerous relevant events across the globe and an active member of several national and international associations including the IBA, ABA, BMA, ANADE, among others. His proactiveness and appetite to be kept abreast of the latest developments of his field and for continuous improvement were unparalleled.
