IFT reduces telecommunication interconection rates

[:en][:en]Yesterday, November 17, 2020, the methodology to calculate the interconnection costs for operators and concessionaires in the telecommunications sector, applicable for 2021, 2022 and 2023, was published in the Federal Official Gazette (Diario Oficial de la Federación); the rates for 2021 are 25.8% lower than those of the current year and will continue to decrease in 2022 and 2023.

The above was decided by the plenary of the Federal Telecommunications Institute (Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones – IFT”) in its November 4, 2020 session.

The applicability of the cost models is usually annual, however, this time the IFT decided for a multi-year period.

The foregoing is relevant for concessionaires and authorized re-sellers of telecommunication services.

The applicable rates from January 1 to December 31, 2021 will be:

  1. For concessionaires of public telecommunication services, other than the Predominant Economic Agent (Agente Económico Preponderante ) -“AEP) for local service termination services under the “caller pays” modality per minute of interconnection:
  • For mobile users: MXN $0.073714
  • For fixed users: MXN$0.003491
  1. Regarding the rates to be charged by the AEP for local service termination services under the “caller pays” modality per minute of interconnection:
  • For mobile users: MXN$0.018489
  • For fixed users: MXN$0.002842
  1. For traffic services on the mobile network to be charged by the AEP: MXN$0.002184 per minute of interconnection.
