GC ALERT | Cofece close to having a full Board

Gonzalez Calvillo, January 5th, 2023 – Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador sent two nominees to be ratified by the Senate as commissioners at the Mexican Antitrust Commission (“Cofece”).

The possible commissioners, Mr. Rodrigo Alcázar and Giovanni Tapia are economists with long trajectories and bast experience in the antitrust field.

These new appointments, as well as Ms. Andrea Marván’s in past December, are the result of the Supreme Court’s decision ordering the President to appoint the new Cofece’s Board Commissioners, which shows that, despite everything, institutionality prevails in our country.

At Gonzalez Calvillo we expect a swift ratification process by the Senate. In this regard, we consider that these appointments may lead to the designations in other regulators with vacancies and may show the important role of domestic and international push in favor of the preservation of our institutions.
